In the final year, students explore Christ as the Word of God through the Psalms and Wisdom Literature, the letters of James, Jude, and Peter, and the writings of St. John. The Gospel and Epistles of John and the book of Revelation bring together the themes of all four years.

Christ, the Eternal Word

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Most Catholics are familiar with Jesus Christ being identified as the Word of God, but why? What is the significance of calling Him the “Word”? In this final year of study, students delve into the Psalms and Wisdom Literature of the Old Testament (Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Wisdom of Solomon, and Sirach) to discover the Old Testament context of the Wisdom (or Word) of God. From there, we turn to the New Testament and study the letters of James, Jude, and 1 and 2 Peter. Finally, the themes of the previous three years come together as we study the Gospel and Epistles of St. John and the book of Revelation.
