Retreats & Workshops

The St. John Vianney Theological Seminary Lay Division continues to offers retreats and workshops for spiritual enrichment throughout the year. We welcome all those who are interested to experience and learn about the richness of our faith. You don’t have to be a current or former student of our program; so please, come join us! And feel free to invite your family, friends and neighbors to join us, too! Each year, we host the following annual events:

  • Lenten Retreat – A one-day event held at a south-Denver or north-Colorado Springs location at the beginning of the Lenten season. The  2019 Lenten Retreat was presented by John Sehorn, Ph.D., and was entitled: “The Heavenly Homesickness: Augustine’s Confessions and our Lenten Pilgrimage.” The 2020 Lenten Retreat is scheduled for Saturday, February 29, 2020 — please join us!! (Registration will open early January 2020.)
  • “Servant of the Word” Workshop – Held on a Saturday during February/March of each year, the Servant of the Word Workshop is a chance for us to honor a person who is highly engaged in studying the Catholic faith and bringing it to all. The Servant of the Word Workshop usually has a theme which the honoree speaks on in 2 – 3 talks, and includes light breakfast and lunch. Past SOTW Workshops have honored Dr. Tim Gray, Dr. Peter S. Williamson, and Dr. Edward Sri. Don’t miss the 2020 Servant of the Word Workshop on Saturday, February 1, 2020, where we will be honoring Dr. Thomas Smith!! For more information, contact Karen Morrow at 720.476.7486 or karen.morrow@archden.org.
  • Fall Retreat – A weekend retreat (Fri eve – Sun lunch), typically held at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park at the beginning of November. Registration usually opens mid-late September. The 2019 Fall Retreat will be November 8-10, 2019. Please join us!! (Registration will open late September 2019.)

AUG 3 WORKSHOP WITH DANIEL CAMPBELL of the Denver Catholic Biblical and Catechetical Schools
"Perfection and the Will of God"
REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!!

Cost: $30.00

St. Alphonsus Liguori wrote of the will of God that,
“Perfection is founded entirely on the love of God: ‘Charity is the bond of perfection;’ and perfect love of God means the complete union of our will with God’s: ‘The principal effect of love is so to unite the wills of those who love each other as to make them will the same things. It follows then, that the more one unites his will with the Divine will, the greater will be his love of God.'”

Although doing God’s will is what we desire, we often struggle to find the unity of wills with God that St. Alphonsus Liguori spoke about. Join us, then, as we discuss what God’s plan is for us and how to discern His will! This one-day workshop will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loveland. The workshop starts with daily Mass and includes three talks presented by Daniel Campbell, light breakfast and sandwich lunch.

We are also offering a new Short Course this summer: “Three Conversions: An Introduction to the Spiritual Life,” presented by Daniel Campbell. For more information, click on “Short Courses” under “About” dropdown at the top of this page.
